Bearded Iris liners, also known as starter plants, have been planted a season ahead of time and have a thoroughly developed fresh and responsive root system throughout the pot. Starting out with these starter plants there is a much greater likely hood that one will have flowers the very first season. Whereas when starting out with bare root planted Bearded Iris one often does not have flowers until the second growing season. Starter plants are for people that do not want to wait and want to start out with the best.
Features:
Dig a hole two times the depth and width of the 4" pot of the starter plant. Back fill some of the loosened soil if needed. Unpot the starter plant, and place the top of the root ball even with the ground level, leveling in soil to ground level and tamping it down firmly with your foot. Water well initially to settle soil, then regularly during the first year and then as needed once established. If you like, apply a balanced fertilizer like 6-10-10 at the time of planting and again about a month after spring blooms. Watering well after first spring blooms also helps in establishing the starter plants.
Tip:
Your potted Irises will do best the sooner you are able to plant them in their ultimate garden destination. However, your soil must be workable prior to planting. If your soil is not yet workable, or you are concerned about a late frost, keep your pots inside someplace where they will be exposed to regular, direct light, such as a window sill.
While every effort has been made to describe these plants accurately, please keep in mind that height, bloom time, and color may differ in various climates. The description of these plants has been written based on numerous outside resources.
Order early as we expect this variety to sell out. To assure freshness stock quantities are limited and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
