History:
This 5 bottle set is a limited release from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and is an opportunity to acquire some of their most sought-after labels. The set contains 1 x 750ml bottle of each of the following labels from the 2018 vintage; La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Échézaux and Corton.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, or DRC, is a prestigious wine estate in Burgundy, France. It produces red and white wines from some of the finest Grand Cru vineyards in the region, including the famous Romanée-Conti, which gives the domaine its name. DRC has a long and noble history, dating back to the 13th century, when it was owned by a local abbey. It later became the property of a prince, who competed with the king's mistress for this prized land. Today, DRC is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest wine producers, and its bottles are among the most expensive and sought-after in the market. DRC wines are known for their elegance, complexity and longevity, reflecting the terroir and tradition of Burgundy.
Collection:
(1x) Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ‘La Tâche’ 2018 750ml
La Tache is one of the most prestigious and sought-after wines in the world, produced by the legendary Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC) in Burgundy, France. It is a monopole, meaning that the entire 6-hectare vineyard is owned by the DRC and no one else can make wine from it. La Tache is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes and has a distinctive character of power, elegance and complexity. It has aromas and flavors of red and black fruits, spices, leather, smoke and roses, with a long and velvety finish. La Tache is extremely rare and expensive, often fetching thousands of dollars per bottle at auctions. It can age for decades and is considered one of the greatest expressions of terroir in the world.
Critic Tasting Notes: “The grand old lady' is how Bertrand de Villaine refers to La Tâche, now planted with 50-year-old vines and responsible for one of the great wines of the vintage in 2018, as it so often is. This is a Grand Cru with incredible presence and self-assurance, showing remarkable balance, grace and intensity, the majesty of a great, soaring cathedral, fine texture and flavors of green malt, red berries and autumn leaves. Wonderful stuff.” - Tim Atkin MW, Decanter Magazine (98 pts)
(1x) Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ‘Richebourg’ 2018 750ml
Richebourg is one of the Grand Cru vineyards in Vosne-Romanée, located in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy, France. It is renowned for producing wines of great power, depth, and complexity, and the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) bottling is considered one of the finest expressions of this terroir. The vineyard spans 8.03 hectares, with 3.51 hectares owned by DRC, who have meticulously cultivated it to maintain its unique character. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the 2018 vintage offers a robust and elegant profile. It opens with a bouquet of dark fruits, such as black cherry and plum, accompanied by floral notes of violets and hints of spice and earth. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, with velvety tannins and layers of complex flavors that include dark berries, licorice, and a subtle minerality. The finish is exceptionally long and expressive, reflecting the wine’s grand pedigree. Richebourg is celebrated for its aging potential, and the 2018 vintage is no exception, promising decades of graceful evolution.
Critic Tasting Notes: “The whole bunch fermentation that is a hallmark of DRC's style is particularly apparent on this rich, textured, almost Baroque Richebourg. Exotic, plush and spicy, with intense white pepper and clove aromas, fine-grained tannins, scented new oak and layers of bramble, raspberry and forest floor flavours, Layered, complex winemaking.” - Tim Atkin MW, Decanter Magazine (97 pts)
(1x) Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ‘Romanée-Saint-Vivant’ 2018 750ml
Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy, France. It produces red wines from Pinot noir grapes, which are known for their elegance, finesse and aromatic complexity. The vineyard covers 9.44 hectares, of which 5.3 hectares are owned by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), one of the most prestigious and expensive wine producers in the world. DRC has been managing the site since 1966 and acquired it in 1988 from the Marey-Monge family, who had owned it since 1791. The vineyard lies on a gentle east-facing slope, with iron-rich limestone soil and old vines that are cultivated organically. The wines of Romanée-Saint-Vivant are often described as feminine, delicate and ethereal, with floral, spicy and earthy aromas and a silky texture. They can age gracefully for decades, developing more depth and nuance over time.
Critic’s Tasting Notes (barrel tasting): “Romanée-St-Vivant went through malolactic later than the other DRC Grands Crus and was a little more backward and reductive when I tasted it from barrel. Fermented with 90% whole clusters and aged in new wood, it's paler than its stablemates, with refined red berry fruits, focused, mineral-edged acidity and a racy, chalky finish. Transparent winemaking from a site that often produces the domaine's most elegant wine.” - Tim Atkin MW, Decanter Magazine (97 pts)
(1x) Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ‘Echézeaux’ 2018 750ml
Échézaux is one of the eight grand cru vineyards in the village of Flagey-Échézeaux, in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. It is also one of the labels produced by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), one of the most prestigious and sought-after wine estates in the world. Échézaux is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, harvested from vines that are slightly younger than those in other DRC vineyards. The wine is aged in new oak barrels for about 18 months, resulting in a soft, sweet and elegant expression of Pinot Noir, with aromas and flavors of red fruits, spices and flowers. Échézaux is considered to be one of the more approachable and affordable wines from DRC, but it still has great aging potential and can develop more complexity and depth over time.
Critic’s Tasting Notes: “Echézeaux is frequently regarded as the least exciting of DRC's array of Vosne Grands Crus, but the 2018 is a delight that has the concentration to age. Fermented with 90% whole bunches and aged in new wood, it's spicy, subtle and white pepper scented, with impressive texture and palate-coating opulence, racy acidity and floral top notes.” - Tim Atkin MW, Decanter Magazine (95 pts)
(1x) Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ‘Corton’ 2018 750ml
Corton is one of the most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy, located on the renowned Corton hill in the Côte de Beaune. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti sources this wine from three historic parcels: Renardes, Les Bressandes, and Clos du Roi, which together contribute to the wine’s exceptional complexity and balance. The 2018 vintage reflects the unique terroir of Corton, offering a vibrant and structured expression of Pinot Noir. With its deep ruby hue, elegant aromatics, and robust yet polished texture, this wine is a superb example of Burgundy’s Grand Cru heritage. Crafted with longevity in mind, it is a wine that rewards patience, becoming a true masterpiece in the cellar.
Critic’s Tasting Notes: “DRC made one of the three parcels that make up this Grand Cru blend - Renardes, Bressandes and Clos du Roi - on its own in 2018 but concluded that it was better blended with the other two after all. Fermented with 90% whole bunches, it's sweeter, spicier and less rustic than many Cortons, showing considerable finesse, sweet spices, fine-grained oak and some grip.” - Tim Atkin MW, Decanter Magazine (95 pts)
