Planting Tips & Instructions
  • Planting:
  • Plant in spring after the last frost.
  • Keep bulbs cool until planting and be careful that they do not dry out.
  • Fill the planter with soil (use ½ of soil bag)
  • Plant your lilies with the pointy end up about 2 inches apart.
  • Cover the bulbs with the remaining soil and water thoroughly.
  • If early blooms are desired, start indoors up to four weeks ahead of last frost date.
  • Growing:
  • Lilies grow in full sun to partial shade.
  • Grow them where there will be some shade during the hottest part of the day so that flowers will hold their color.
  • Start to fertilize with an all-purpose fertilizer when the leaves appear. Fertilize every 4 weeks.
  • Lilies generally take from 10 to 12 weeks to bloom and the blooms will last for weeks.
  • Taking Care:
  • Water regularly throughout the growing and flowering period.
  • Keep your lilies healthy by removing dead flowers.
  • These flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
  • Winterizing:
  • At the end of the season, allow the foliage to turn yellow and die back. After a frost, clip back the stems near ground level and apply a mulch cover to ensure the bulbs makes it through the winter months.
  • Protect the planter by placing it close to the house or in an unheated garage. The lilies will start growing again after the last frost.
While every effort has been made to describe these plants accurately, please note that height, bloom time, and color may differ in various climates.
