This 3 bottle set is a limited release from Chateau Mouton Rothschild and is an opportunity to acquire some of their most sought after vintages. The set contains 1 750ml bottle of each of the following vintages, 2014, 2015, 2016. History of the Estate: Formerly known as Chateau Brane-Mouton, it was in 1853 that Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired the property located on the Left Bank in the Bordeaux region in the Medoc. From this date, the Chateau was renamed Château Mouton-Rothschild. Under the leadership of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Mouton-Rothschild saw its reputation grow to become an emblem of the Pauillac appellation. Taking over the reins of the estate in 1922, Baron Philippe de Rothschild was at the core of all the major and innovative decisions during his time there. From 1924, Mouton-Rothschild was the first property in the Bordeaux region to bottle the wine on the estate and to mention this on its label. The barrel storage capacities on the estate quickly became insufficient. The "Grand Cellar'' at 100 meters long was designed in 1926, and was an architectural feat at that time. In 1973, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild acquired the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classe. With the same passion and commitment as her father, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild took over in 1988. Up until 2014, the estate had its facilities further expanded and modernized, which has left a profound mark on the estate. Today, the three children, Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, all co-owners of the chateau, continue in the footsteps of their predecessors. (1x) Château Mouton Rothschild 2014 750ml 99 James Suckling / 97 Jeb Dunnuck Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:  The color is a deep red with a purplish tint. The refined and distinguished nose reveals very mature fruit aromas, pleasantly mingled with subtle spice and vanilla notes. The velvety attack fills the mouth with a mature and smooth body on silky, firm tannins which enfold a satin texture with a hint of minerality. The very long finish displays a harmonious combination of complexity, opulence and freshness. Vintage Report: 2014 will be remembered as a year of contrasts. Spring arrived in due course after a typical Bordeaux winter, though April was much sunnier and drier than the average. A wet and cool May was followed by a spell of bright and sunny weather, despite some highly localized heavy rainfall, mainly due to storms on 22 and 23 June. The weather in summer was very changeable. July was generally fine and slightly warmer than the average, whereas August was quite a lot cooler and much less sunny, though drier, than normal. With the end of August came one of the longest and most exceptional Indian summers in memory, bringing a succession of hot, sunny and dry days which lasted until the end of October. Warm weather in April encouraged early budbreak, especially for the Merlot, while the extraordinary late season enabled the grapes to reach perfect maturity, retaining all the fruit flavors and favoring phenolic compounds. The harvest took place in ideal conditions, leaving plenty of time to pick the grapes at optimum maturity. (1x) Château Mouton Rothschild 2015 750ml 99 James Suckling / 98+ Jeb Dunnuck / 98 Wine Advocate / 98 Wine Enthusiast Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:  The wine has an attractive, deep and dark color with a purple tint. The refined and elegant nose reveals fruity wild blackberry and bilberry aromas. Notes of toast, liquorice and blond tobacco then emerge to fill out a rich and complex range of aromas. The fresh, full-bodied and slightly saline attack shows great intensity, opening on smooth and creamy tannins which enfold a silky texture lifted by a touch of minerality. The impression on the palate is very full, rich in ripe fruit and peppery spice flavors. An exceptionally long finish concludes a remarkably balanced wine. Vintage Report: Although 2015 was slightly warmer than average, it was above all vet" dry (706 mm of rain, compared with an annual average of 862 mm), especially between February and July, from budbreak to veraison. As a result the berries remained small, which explains why the yield was rather low even though we had hopes of a normal crop after flowering. Higher-than-average rainfall in August and September helped to prevent the ripening process from coming to a halt in a vineyard already stressed by the lack of water. Consequently the grapes matured at rather different rates from one parcel to another, according to the terroir, the grape variety and the age of the vines. In order to ensure that each variety and each parcel was picked at optimum maturity, the harvest period was the longest in living memory. It lasted 23 days between our three estates, from the first Merlots on 14 September to the last Cabernet Sauvignons on 6 October. The grapes were magnificent and fermentation took place quickly. The wines immediately showed plenty of color and a complete array of very intense aromas ranging from red and black fruit to spice and incense.  The tannins are generally very well-rounded, dense and seamlessly smooth. After blending, the wines still have the same aromatic intensity and complex, full-bodied structures which barrel-maturing should further enhance. Our 2015 vintage in Pauillac is very similar in its heft and opulence to the 2005 vintage. (1x) Château Mouton Rothschild 2016 750ml 100 Wine Advocate / 100 The Wine Independent / 100 James Suckling / 100 Jeb Dunnuck  Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: The wine is a dark and intense cherry red. The highly refined nose reveals perfectly ripe fruit. Ripe bilberry and blackcurrant aromas combine harmoniously with floral notes. With airing, the nose unfolds on pepper and spice balanced by elegant notes of graphite and blonde tobacco, bringing charm and nobility to an extensive range of aromas. The full and dense attack exhibits exceptionally well-rounded and silky tannins. The ample mid-palate abounds in black fruit along with cocoa flavors and biscuity notes, leading into a full-bodied and remarkably persistent finish, the sign of a great vintage. Vintage Report: In 2016, there were two main trends in the weather as we experienced it in Pauillac; the first was a very wet winter and spring: more than half of the annual rainfall came in the first four months of the year, including a record 240 mm in January, and the second was an extremely dry summer and autumn without any significant rainfall, resulting in a water deficit at the end of the year. As a consequence of the summer drought, the grapes were numerous but remained rather small, making for density and concentration. High temperatures in August and September allowed for slow ripening and excellent maturity, so that the harvest started with the Merlot on 26 September and continued in perfect conditions until 14 October. In the vat house, each grape variety and each plot were, as usual, vinified separately in order to let their intrinsic character shine through. The wines, which have now been blended, offer remarkable color, intense fruit and spice aromas and a dense texture of very rich and well-rounded tannins.  Its density and substance make the 2016 vintage comparable the finest so far this century.
