Planting Tips and Instructions:
- Planting:
- Place your bulb in a pot that is about 1-2 inches wider than the bulb itself. Fill with well-draining potting mix, leaving the top third of the bulb exposed.
- Watering:
- Water generously after planting but avoid over-watering. Once your bulb begins to sprout, water regularly to keep the soil lightly moist.
- Sunlight:
- Amaryllises thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. While they don’t need direct sunlight, they do best in a spot with plenty of natural light, like a sunny windowsill.
- Temperature:
- Amaryllis prefers a warm environment, ideally between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Keep it in a space with consistent warmth for best results.
- Encouraging Blooms:
- To encourage continued growth, trim any withered blooms. After your bulb blooms, allow the flowers to naturally fade. To help the plant bloom again next season, you can cut back the stem once it’s completely spent and let the leaves continue to grow until they yellow.
Amaryllis bulbs are tropical plants that thrive in warm temperatures. Once the risk of seasonal frost has passed, raw bulbs can be planted directly in the garden or in a planter on your veranda. If frost is still a concern, simply bring the planter indoors.
