Technically, it means buying the wine before it is bottled and released to the market. Each year in Bordeaux (~April), the whole city springs to life as wine enthusiasts from around the world gather to taste the vintage harvested the year prior, straight from the barrel (like a sneak-preview for wines!). At that time, even before bottling, the wine can be secured at a lower price to be delivered after ~2y when it has finished aging.

This recognition has been confirmed by several classifications, the most recent of which granted Château Angélus the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé "A".
The label of Château Angélus wine has always featured a bell on a light background as a tribute to the devotion of the same name. The bell has evolved over the years in different styles: baroque, schematic, streamlined and even in gold. As Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion moves on, but style remains”. This applies to this bell, which symbolizes a lasting family history that has a strong identity and a real personality. Behind the elegance, there are values of loyalty to tradition, adoption of modern practices and techniques and rejection of complacency for the sake of the estate’s reputation.
2020 VintageIn the last thirty years, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest has constantly challenged practices and techniques for the benefit of his land and the unique characteristics of the wines grown on it, enabling Château Angélus to be recognised as one of the foremost properties in its appellation area. This recognition has been documented in one classification after another, the last of which awarded Château Angélus the status of Premier Grand Cru Classé "A".
Keeping with the tradition of attributing a short descriptor to each vintage, Chateau Angelus has dubbed 2020 "LE SUBLIME", describing the wines as “[displaying] a brilliant, dense, very dark, almost black color with dark purple tones, mirroring the perfect ripeness of the grapes and their optimal pH level. The nose exhibits intense aromas of juicy black fruits, such as wild cherries and blackberries. Elegant floral notes then come through, such as peony and violets. Refined tannins underpin a long-lasting, spherical, voluptuous structure on the palate, while the flavors linger long, bringing a sensation of freshness and harmony. This vintage displays a seldom-achieved degree of elegance, while the highest levels of purity and precision are reached with this blend of extraordinary Merlot and characterful Cabernet Franc.”
