The 2018 Vintage will go down in history as one of the top Bordeaux vintages of the decade, if not all time. A warm and wet winter gave the vineyards some trouble in the beginning of the year. However, a particularly hot, dry summer followed by moderate amounts of rain in early fall allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness.
Chateau Rauzan-Segla, a 2nd Growth producer, is located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. The estate has a long-standing history dating back to 1661 and the Chateau was recently restored in 1996. Since the renovations, it has undergone a technical renaissance thanks to innovations and upgrades made to the winemaking facilities. The wines coming out of the Estate these recent years have been some of the best in it’s history.
99 Pts Jeb Dunnuck: “Reminding me of the 2016, the 2018 Château Rauzan-Segla reveals this beautifully fresh, complex bouquet that still has serious richness and depth. Based on 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, raised in 65% new barrels, it offers a dense purple hue to go with gorgeous notes of blackcurrants, spring flowers, cigar wrapper, and sandalwood. A quintessential Margaux with its spicy, complex, floral character, it's full-bodied and has a supple, elegant texture, no hard edges, a solid spine of acidity, and a great, great finish. This is a brilliant, heavenly 2018 to enjoy over the coming 30 years or more.”
