The Zantedeschia (or calla lily) is a favorite subject of many artists and an important art deco motif. It’s a dramatic and popular flower with thick leaves, shaped like arrowheads. An ideal plant for your patio where you can enjoy the beautiful plants with long lasting flowers. This bulb kit makes planting simple and comes complete with soil, bulbs and a large resin, woven planter. Just remove the packaging, plant the bulbs in the soil, add water and let Mother Nature take care of the rest. No green thumb is needed for success.

- Planting:
- Plant in spring after the last frost.
- If you can not plant your bulbs right away store them in a cool, dry, dark location, like a basement.
- Fill the planter with soil (use ½ of soil bag)
- Plant them with the pointy end up about 2 inches apart.
- Cover the bulbs with the remaining soil and water thoroughly.
- If early blooms are desired, pot up and start indoors up to six weeks ahead of last frost date.
- Growing:
- Calla lilies are bulbs that thrive best in full sun to partial shade.
- Start to fertilize with an all-purpose fertilizer when the sprouts (green tips) come up.
- Calla lilies prefer heavy feedings every 3 weeks until they come to bloom. Stop fertilizing when the plants have bloomed.
- Calla lilies generally take from 8 to 10 weeks to bloom.
- Taking Care:
- Water regularly throughout the growing and flowering period, but allow the soil to become dry between watering.
- Calla lilies are great as cut flowers and will remain beautiful for more than a week in a vase with water.
- Winterizing:
- Calla lilies are not winter hardy and need to be dug up after the first frost.
- Do not wash but dry the bulbs for a day.
- Store away from drafts at approximately 40 °F to 50 °F (5 °C to 10 °C) in a paper bag or box filled with dry peat moss.
