For best cooking results, use kiln-dried wood (the drier, the better) in sizes roughly 5 in. x 1 in. x 1 in. For best practices lighting the wood, place 3-4 fire starters in the fuel grate or the ash pan. Add 4-5 pieces of wood above the starters. Proceed to light all the fire starters at once to get the fire burning quickly & hot (The hotter the fire from the get-go, the faster the temps will rise and the less soot you will see). It is recommended that, on average, 1-2 pieces of wood be added every 5-10 mins.
