If flossing isn’t a regular part of your oral care routine, you’re not reaching the bacteria that can build up between teeth, causing plaque, bad breath and infection. Flossing has never been easy or enjoyable but we all know we should do it more often. Airfloss takes the hassle out of flossing so you can get a deep clean every day. With microdroplets of water and pressurized air, Philips Sonicare AifFloss removes 99% more plaque between teeth than brushing alone. It’s probably the easiest way to floss in just 60 seconds.
This technology delivers a quick burst of air and microdroplets of water or mouth rinse that reach deep between teeth to gently and easily remove interproximal plaque. It is a proven alternative for someone who just won’t usually floss.

Some advice by a professional, Linda Blackiston RDH, BSDo your gums bleed? Have you ever noticed that your breath is not as fresh as you might like? These can be signs of an active infection in your mouth. Yes, an infection. Healthy gums do not bleed. As a dental hygienist who has been practicing for more than 20 years, I focus my conversations with patients around the importance of maintaining a healthy mouth.
A healthy mouth begins at a young age. Parents need to begin brushing their child’s teeth as soon as they appear in the mouth and take them to see the dentist within 6 months of the eruption of their first tooth. Or the first dental visit should happen by the child’s first birthday; there are dentists that specialize in children’s teeth.
Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day helps to remove the sticky film on the teeth. This sticky film commonly known as plaque contains bacteria that can cause an infection in your mouth if it is not removed on a daily basis. I like to recommend a “power” or “electric” toothbrush for my patients, as they are known to do a significantly better job of removing plaque than a manual toothbrush. I like brushes that have a timer because it helps people to know how long to brush; dental professionals recommend two minutes of brushing. It is equally important to remember to replace your brush head every three months for optimal results.
In addition to brushing twice a day, as a dental hygienist, I recommend daily flossing. Although daily flossing is critical to achieving optimal oral health, I do recognize that many people have difficulty maintaining this healthy habit. If this is your situation ask your dental professional about some of the other options available (other than string floss) that may help to clean in between your teeth.
To maintain a healthy mouth, visit your dentist every six months, practice a healthy balanced diet low in sugar, brush twice daily, and clean in between your teeth at least once a day.
