Anthony Austin has produced Pinot Noir in the Russian River Valley for more than three decades. He brings his unique expertise to the production of this Kirkland Signature Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The basic character of any vineyard is determined by two primary factors: weather and soil. Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley’s almost perfect weather is formed by the regular arrival of a cooling fog from the Pacific Ocean. This fog flows through the Petaluma Gap and the channel cut by the Russian River. Usually arriving in the evening, this fog often drops temperature 35 to 40 degrees from the daytime high. The fog flows back to the ocean the following morning. This natural cooling allows the grapes to develop full flavor maturity over an extended growing season – often 15 to 20 percent longer than neighboring areas – while retaining their mouth-watering, natural acidity.
