"Untitled (Indian)" by Fiora Boes
"Untitled (Indian)" by Fiora Boes
Fiora is operating on another level. How does someone take an ancient medium like painting on canvas and create something wholly original like this? That is why we compare Fiora's work to the power of a Warhol.
Original mixed-media on canvas. Hand signed by the artist on verso. Los Angeles, California 2013.
- Size: 49" x 63"
Fiora had her first solo show in Beverly Hills at the Kantor Gallery where she was the first woman (and one of the first few living non-blue chip artists to be exhibited.) Modern Living, a luxury lifestyle boutique in the heart of Beverly Hills known for furnishing the homes of A-list celebrities and million-dollar clients, sold out of Fiora's first collection of large-format digital and mixed media pieces.
In the late 1990's Fiora designed and manufactured her own art-based collection of women's sportswear that was featured on runways in Japan and sold at Barneys, Neiman-Marcus, Macy’s and Nordstrom as well as upscale boutiques around the world. Fiora's art and design sensibility had versatility in feature film work as well. She was the graphic designer for the feature film Scooby-Doo and costume designed the cult classic SLC PUNK. The "hero" jacket from SLC Punk is currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in the History of Punk exhibition.
Having rented her own art for Microsoft commercials and major motion pictures like Terry Zwigoff and Dan Clowes' Art School Confidential, Fiora started a gallery of her own, showing cutting-edge art where she could not only display and sell other artists’ work, but also rent it for feature films, television, and commercials. Fiora's gallery has worked with legends such as Tony Alva, Benicio del Toro, Clive Barker, Mark Mothersbaugh, Shepard Fairey, Mr. Brainwash, Allee Willis, and many others. This Los Angeles based gallery is called Ghettogloss and has been in business for 13 years and is widely regarded to be the most cutting-edge gallery in town. Its new location in the up-and-coming neighborhood of Eagle Rock is slated to open on June 15, 2013 with an exhibit that features Fiora's new series of large-format digital and mixed media on canvas works, entitled Tightrope.
